Yesterday Peter and I went to Home Depot to spend all his Christmas giftcards. Peter skipped the whole get a cart thing and went straight to the shopping. This wasn't a problem until he found his fifth or sixth much desired item and had a hard time juggling them in his arms as he moved toward the next isle. I offered to get a cart several times but nooooo. He was fine.
So, what's the WD about, Laura?
Well, since we've been on the hunt the past few months and exhausted our welcome at the Mom and Dad's Luxury Suit Laundry Room Inn*, I suggested we take a stroll down that particular section in the store... They Maytag washers and dryers were on sale. Peter has been searching Craig's list the past few weeks but it still wasn't that cheap. Then there's the gamble of how well it works regardless of what the previous owner said. So we've been back and forth deciding which to do...less money with a gamble or more money and we take it with us to our next house and wash our kids clothes in it. Can you guess which side of the fence I'm on?
Peter wasn't sold on it so we walked out with our hands full of his new toys...blow torch, gadgets to go with his new air compressor, big huge packaging tape dispenser, you know, fun stuff.
Our next stop was Costco and it only got better. We bought a big, huge utility shelf for the garage. By itself it's 200 pounds but it can hold 2,000 pounds. This thing is serious business. After unloading all our groceries we decided to assemble the beast. By 11:00 pm our garage was as pretty as the inside of our house.
The next day.
I came home from work and Peter said something along the lines of "So how 'bout that washer and dryer?" We were off, back to the man mall. Scouring the appliances for any changes in price or new appliances on the floor we found a well-informed employee. We told him our thoughts from the previous day and he gave us (way more than we needed) information on the other brands and their features. Maytag was third on his list and he promptly lead us to his first choice-- the GE model. We stopped at the UPS store beforehand and picked up a "new address" packet (with a Lowe's coupon which HD accepts neatly packed inside). With this 10% coupon, the Maytag offer of 10% off for the week became nothing special since I could use my 10% coupon towards the GE. I read the fine print...I couldn't add the Maytag special plus my coupon to get the Maytag appliances. I tried. You know how I hate to pay full price for anything and if I can add more than one discount on it, I'll try my hardest. So it was decided. We swiped our card (which we will pay in full at the end of the month) on the cute, matching W/D set on the first isle.
Done. Free delivery. See you Wednesday. So long extra storage space in the middle of the house....
xo, p&l
*Mom and Dad didn't really kick us out; Peter was just getting tired of waiting 2-3 weeks before the laundry was clean again...Can't say I blame him...After 7 months, we were ready.
