Yesterday was such a blast! I am so grateful to my mom and Grandma's and Elizabeth for helping us get ready, making food and keeping it all stocked throughout the day. We didn't run out!! It was so fun to see everyone and show them all we had done to our house. With only about 850 square feet we weren't sure how our little home would hold up. He rocked it like a champ! It did not feel tight, tons of people were able to sit and no one was afraid of plopping on the floor. Cynthia (sister) sat in front of the warm fireplace the whole time which was just so cute to watch. She was mesmerized. She kept saying, "I just want to hug it!" It was sprinkling off and on all day which made for a very cozy atmosphere. Peter lit all the candles, the tree and garland was all lit up, the fire was toasty, Christmas music rang out and the windows were open to give just a taste of the nippy outside. Our goal was to make our guests want to stay inside snuggled up with friends and family. Peter guessed there were about 60 people that came through which was just such a blast. It felt like a mini second reception.
My boo boos were forgetting to buy cups (duh!) and forgetting/not realizing we would need forks for the cake & meatballs (more duh!). Glenn (Peter's dad) saved the day and ran to the store. Phew! We put together a slide show of our first 6 months of marriage which people seemed to enjoy. It consisted of pictures from the wedding, honeymoon, Monterey trip, National Park road trip, our first apartment, and all our house projects.
Our last guests left at 7:45 and Peter walked them out. I was in bed before the door shut behind them. I was so exhausted. Peter came back up and laughed hysterically at me all curled up in the fetal position holding on tightly to my pillow as if it might run away. The last month and a half all came to a close and I had no idea how much "tired" I had stored up! I was washing some of the dishes and seriously thought I might drop it...I knew we had been working hard and pulling too many all-nighters but the sudden zap of energy was a surprise to me.
Peter crawled up next to me in bed and we shared our favorite parts of the party. We celebrated all the awesome things we did right and laughed at the things we forgot and how the music was having trouble staying on...We loved our first party and can't wait to do it again!! Peter and I weren't together very much throughout the party and we tried to decide if that was a good or bad thing. We decided it was ok to be separate because then we could mingle with twice the amount of guests and we wanted to make sure everyone knew we were grateful they made time to visit our new home. Thank you to all who came and made our house feel warm and cozy. We love a full house and can't wait to have you over again soon!!
