This was our conversation more or less Monday morning in bed (approximately 11 am). So we got ready and took off! Peter was reading one of his many maps and found an interesting place to camp and called to find out more. He is quite the little researcher. This is one of the many awesome things about him because I despise research. I'm also terrible at it. Ask my friend Alyssa Holladay. I'm real bad! Back to the story...
We drove up to Wright Wood which is on the back side of Mt. Baldy (Peter's favorite mountain). We were just three miles away and that's when you turn off the nice, smooth road onto the bumpy, hardly maintained road. Civy handled it like a champ though! We bounced along the windy road through the ski runs of Mt High, not quite sure whether or not we were going the right way. We were though and reached our special destination in no time. It was awesome! We pull up to the campground that has about 8 sites total. We chose ours carefully and started to unload. It was so much fun! We got to use our new tent, air mattress, pump, & ice chest. We played some Bocce Ball (I won surprisingly). Ha- funny- he was behind by five points and so he threw the white ball far up a hill. It was impossible for me to throw that far and he laughed as all of my balls came rolling back towards me. He made 4 points that round. Yet, still, not enough to beat this Bocce Baller. We also enjoyed Sequence and Racko. We hiked a bit, gathered wood for our fire, collected pinecones (FALL DECOR!!), roasted hot dogs, chit chatted, and slept peacefully in our awesome woodsy home. Oh ya, and it was all free. That's right= free! As in, no charge. Awesome! Check it...
Peter's favorite part was that it was legal to gather firewood. He built an awesome fire and it was extremely fun to watch him gather, build, light, admire, maintain, and then back to admire.
We had a little fright in the morning. The night before, I got a headache and Peter lovingly got out of the tent to fetch some Advil from the trunk. It was late, dark, & we were tired. We woke up the next morning and couldn't find the keys. While these moments aren't fun, I love how we react. We both stay really calm, try to think it through and don't get frustrated with each other. As long as I can remember we have handled tight situations like this calmly- I'm not sure if it's a personality thing or we were modeled it or a combination of the two. Anyway, it's just something I like about us.
I'm encouraging Peter to think through the night before while I pull things out of the tent. In my head I'm thinking- his phone is dead, mine is in the locked trunk, we are a long way from home + 3 miles down a rough road, there is only 1 other camper in the campground, I have an appointment at 2:30 for work, Aye! He is thinking- they are in the trunk, oh my goodness, they are in the trunk!!! It was a 5-10 minute panic. But I found them! Between the air mattress and the sleeping bag! Phew! Oh the relief that washed over us and the Jesus praise that fell from our lips! Gotta love those little character builders.
On the way home we stopped by Outdoor World. It was a pretty amazing place. They put a lot into their store display and I'm certainly glad we visited!
What a babe!
Speaking of my babe, Hey Babe! If you are reading this at work, Hello! I miss you! You're awesome and I am so proud of you!!
